Madison, the capital city of Wisconsin. Recent visit to capture fall colors in the Badger State. The city’s skyline is dominated by the State Capitol (284.4 feet high), modeled after the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Its white granite dome is topped by a statue, Wisconsin; made of bronze by sculptor Daniel Chester French and covered in gold leaf, it symbolizes the state motto: “Forward.” Governmental operations and the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1848) account for much of the city’s prosperity and form the basis of its economy.
